Dimiao, Bohol. ‘Twas the day the town’s municipal marker bloomed with flowers, while the clouds shed a few tears.
The LGU-Dimiao held the town’s 252nd founding anniversary on January 22, 2021 . . . a subdued affair, capped with a wreath-laying ceremony under grey clouds and a drizzle—far from the usual grand crowd-drawing festivities of agri fairs, traditional dances and discos.
Side by side, Municipal Mayor Randolph L. Ang and Vice-Mayor Gilberto C. Lagua carried the ceremonial wreath, designed by Ms. Maria Elena M. Paigalan, to the municipal marker—in a symbolic gesture of a strong partnership between the two officials, and of love, devotion and service for the town.
“ . . . I have no other dream but to achieve the highest of our dreams in the name of progress [. . .] I may not have tons of money, but I have my unfathomable heart to offer for this beloved town of ours,” [trans.] said Mayor Ang in his message. He went on to express his multi-sector approach in attaining real progress for Dimiao, which includes infrastructure, health, social services, taxation, water works, business and trade, agriculture, and even legislation through the Sangguniang Bayan.
Early on, a “morning diana” brought the Dimiao Hymn on air, as it was played repeatedly on a portable sound system driven all around the coastal barangays. Then, a holy mass followed at 8:00 o’clock at the San Nicholas de Tolentino Parish Church, with Rev. Fr. Joemari P. Polo officiating. As per office memorandum of Mayor Ang, all LGU personnel were enjoined to attend it.
At the program’s end, food packs for lunch and souvenir key chains were given out to all LGU personnel, barangay captains, and other guests in attendance.
All throughout the event, everyone who attended wore face masks and observed social distancing, and other minimal health/COVID-19 protocols.
